As you fly in - a short hop from Johannesburg
- you could be forgiven for thinking the dense,
abundant bush had caught fire, the plume of
smoke rises so high above the endless plains.
But as you get closer, the land falls away
and the Victoria Falls, one of the seven
natural wonders of the world, known to the
locals as 'The Smoke that Thunders',
come splendidly into view.
Down below awaits the mighty Zambezi River;
cruises past curious hippos reminiscent
of Bogart, Hepburn and the unforgettable
African Queen, and a playground of such
diversity and scope, you'll wonder why
you'd want to go anywhere else.
At the end of it all, you won't want to go,
but there's some consolation in leaving.
After all, it will give you one last chance
to see the magnificent spectacle of
'The Smoke that Thunders' from on high! |
